Habitat for Humanity of NWI
Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana help families earning between 30 to 80% of the average income level, demonstrate a need for a home and agree to complete 300 hours of volunteer time which includes construction of their home, and are responsible for a 0% interest monthly mortgage payment and home maintenance. Through the homeownership education program and financial counseling, Habitat partner families are given the tools to be successful in this life changing opportunity. NWI Veterans Village
Non-profitNWI Veterans Village is a Permanent Supportive Housing program specifically for veterans battling homelessness. The property contains 44 single, multi-family units. All apartments are fully furnished, including all major appliances. There are no utility charges, electricity and water services are included. Free laundry machines are available for residents on all three floors. We offer free Internet service in our computer lab, as well as a weight/fitness room, community room/cafeteria, rooftop patio and urban garden. NWI Veterans Village is an LIHTC Section 42 Federal Housing First program. Rental charges are determined on an individual basis, and may not exceed 30% of a renter's annual income. The annual income limit for qualified applicants is currently set at $30,600. We provide a variety of Permanent Supportive Services, including on-site VA case management, informational presentations, community events, pantry supplies, counseling services, rental assistance, NA meetings, etc. Please call 219-951-0460 to make an appointment.

TBRA Program Tenant-based rental assistance (TBRA) is a rental subsidy that eligible households can receive to help afford housing costs such as rent and security deposits. The TBRA program at this time can not assist participants with utility deposits or utility payments. TBRA Program Information Project Specific Requirements - The applicant must be a resident who currently resides in the City of Gary. The applicant must be a family or individual who has critical and/or emergency housing needs, and falls into the very-low (50%) median income limit. What is considered critical or emergency housing needs; an individual or family that meets at least two (2) of the following risk factors: 1. Mental health and substance abuse issues; 2. Physical disabilities and other chronic health issues, including HIV/AIDS; 3. Young head of household (under 25 with children or pregnant); 4. Extremely low income (less than 30 percent of Area Median Income); 5. Significant amount of medical debt; 6. Sudden and significant loss of income.
